Welcome to 2nd Grade! What an amazing journey we get to embark on together! You will not believe how much your child will grow this year. We have so much planned, and I can't wait to get to know you and your family.
Just a little bit about my family and I, I
graduated from the University of Iowa College with an Elementary
Education/Early Childhood Education degree and a Masters of Elementary
Education/Language Arts degree. For two years I taught at St. James
Elementary School in Washington. This will be my twenty-first year at
Mid-Prairie East Elementary teaching Second Grade!
My husband, Lance, an ISU Cyclones graduate, and I have 15 year old twin daughters, Ellie and Sophie who will be 10th graders in Washington! We love the Iowa Hawkeyes and ISU Cyclones sporting events too! You'll find us attending many CyHawk series events across the state. Of course, I must mention our love of the Green Bay Packers too! Go Pack Go!
We live on our livestock and grain farm operation west of Washington. You'll see any one of us working to help however we can to put in, maintain and harvest our crops each year. We love farm life as evidenced by our passion to do a lot of grassroots volunteer work with the Washington County Corn & Soybean Growers Association and the Iowa Corn Growers. Lance serves as President of our county organization, is President of the district board of directors and serves on an Iowa Corn state committee too. Maybe we saw you at one of the parades held throughout the county this summer on our float?
We are passionate about 4-H & FFA! As alumni 4-Her's we are giving back as I serve as the Washington County 4-H Youth Committee, Lance serves as a Washington County 4-H Rabbit Committee Volunteer and we both assist with our girls Green Acres 4-H Club and help however we can with Washington County 4-H. Sophie serves as President and Ellie as Treasurer of their Green Acres 4-H Club and they are active members of the Washington County 4-H Leadership Development Team. The girls raise, breed, sell and show rabbits and do countless 4-H projects each year, so the Washington County Fair and the Iowa State Fair keep us very busy with all of their events and our volunteer work. For the past 27 years I've enjoyed judging 4-H projects across the state of Iowa throughout the summer culminating this experience each summer by judging projects in the 4-H Exhibits Building at the Iowa State Fair. With the addition of high school last year, we're excited to add FFA to their busy list of extra curricular activities where we are both alumni of FFA too and we now serve as Secretary and Treasurer of the Washington FFA Chapter Alumni Association. Sophie serves as their Chapter Reporter and Ellie serves as their Chapter Historian while serving on countless committees to support the Washington FFA.
Summer Trip to Colorado
We are active members of the Washington United Methodist Church in Washington. In our spare time, we enjoy fruit, vegetable and flower gardening on our farm, time spent on our farm pond, gathering with family and friends, baking, DIY projects, reading and photography.
Life is an adventure, enjoy the ride!
(I went out of my comfort zone and rode in a 2 seater
sprint car at Knoxville Speedway at race speed this summer!)
Now that you've gotten to know a bit more about my family and I,
I know that it's going to be a great year together!
